The Map Is Not the Territory: Culture, Certainty, and the Cost of Losing Curiosity
A culture is a map held in common. That is its use and its danger.

The map is not the territory.
Two decades and more than five thousand people across the room. Christian writes and speaks about the internal models people mistake for reality, and about what love actually requires once you can see them.
The idea underneath everything
Every person carries a model of how love works. Almost nobody goes back and reads it.
It was built early, out of memory and language and fear and whatever adaptation kept a child safe. It runs quietly. It feels like reality rather than a reading of reality.
Most conflict is two people defending their maps and calling it a disagreement about the territory. The work is to make the map visible. Trace the pattern back to where it started. Stop arguing about the ground and look at the drawing that is generating the argument.
That is not a therapy slogan. It is an epistemology. It applies to relationships, to identity, to any system that mistakes its own model for the truth.
Speaking
Christian speaks to clinicians, leadership teams, conferences, and communities in transition. The promise is the same in every room: move an audience from framework fluency to felt change.

We keep mistaking sameness for closeness. Real intimacy needs difference, not the erasure of it.

Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Polyvagal Theory, and the NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM) all work. That is the problem.

The writing
A public record of the thinking. Clinical reasoning, framework breakdowns, and the questions worth sitting with. New essays land most weeks.

The book
working title · In progress
It is not a therapy book that happens to be smart. It is a reality book that happens to be about relationships.
The book retrieves a century-old insight from Alfred Korzybski and applies it to the modern integrative therapy landscape. It does not reject Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS), the NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), somatic work, or Polyvagal Theory. It asks the one question none of them asks of itself. Is this the territory, or is it a very good map?
Five chapters drafted and polished. Briefs locked for the rest. Roughly forty percent of the manuscript is written. Full manuscript projected for early 2027.
The practice
The clinical home of the work. Couples therapy, the 90-Day Rewire intensive, workshops, and the assessments built on the MAPSS Analysis. Based in Raleigh, working with couples everywhere.
